Pipes, pumps and networks, on your iPhone

Pipe Flow Pro works out the head a pipe loses, the flow it carries or the size it needs, where a pump runs on its system, and the flows and pressures of a network you draw by touch, with the chart and a PDF report to go with it. For iPhone and iPad.

The pipe flow form: what to solve for, the discharge, and the pipe's length, diameter and material A pipe network of a reservoir and three junctions, with the flow in each pipe and the pressure at each junction A pump curve and a system curve crossing at the operating point

Five calculations

The everyday calculations of pressure flow, by Darcy-Weisbach with the Colebrook-White equation or by Hazen-Williams.

Pipe flow

The head loss of a pipe, the discharge it carries or the diameter it needs, with friction, fittings and a change of elevation.

Pipes in series

Pipes end to end: the loss in each, the pressure along the line and the hydraulic grade line drawn.

Pipes in parallel

How a flow divides between pipes that leave one point and meet at another, and the head they all lose.

Pump and system

A pump curve through three points against the curve of its system: the operating point, the head and the power.

Pipe network

Draw reservoirs, junctions and pipes on a canvas. The flow in every pipe and the pressure at every junction are solved again at each change.

Formulas and tables

The equations the app uses, the roughness of common pipe materials and the loss coefficients of fittings and valves.

Made for the desk and the site

  • Metric and English units. Litres per second and millimetres or gallons per minute and inches: switch on any calculation and what you typed is converted.
  • Results as you type. No button to press, and a plain message beside any input that is missing or out of range.
  • Charts. The head loss curve, the grade line, or the pump and system curves, with the solved state marked.
  • PDF reports. The inputs, results, chart, tables and network diagram on paper, to share or file.
  • Saved calculations. Keep a calculation under a name and open it again later.
  • Works offline. Nothing leaves your device: no account, no tracking, no network.

The results are for preliminary design and checking. Roughness and loss coefficients are typical values: confirm them from the maker's data and local standards, and have the design reviewed by a qualified engineer.
